Afternoon Delight

Afternoon Delight

December's in the Pacific NW are normally overcast and rainy.  When we do have a break in the weather I try to take advantage of it by grabbing the camera and heading out to some of my favorite locations.  And, since I live close to the Columbia River, there are a lot of locations to choose from.

On this particular evening I went down to a little known park called "Cottonwood Beach" (see the exact location - bottom of post).  After 15 - 20 minutes of scouting around I located an area where some shrubbery was protruding through the river.  The sun would be setting behind them so I decided to make this my shooting location for the night.

I had a feeling that the light was going to be exceptional so I setup my equipment, found some nice compositions and began shooting.  It wasn't long before the color started appearing in the sky casting a gold glow across the river.  I knew some good images were at hand.

Grand Landscapes are at the top of my list for photographic subjects and this night provided me with everything I needed to capture them.  With a dramatic sky, gorgeous light, reflecting water, and good scenes to work with, I could not have been happier.

After I captured my share of images it was time to step back and just enjoy the moment.  It was time to just enjoy the beauty of nature and appreciate everything around me.  It was time to just be…  For me, this appreciation is what photography is all about.  Yes, I can capture some very delightful scenes but having the opportunity to be surrounded by this beauty is even more special.  This is something no one should take for granted.

With the light fading fast I took time to look a little closer and explore some of natures details.  That's when I saw the image in this post. By stopping and enjoying the moment I was able to discover more and bring home meaningful memories.

How about you?  Do you take some time to enjoy that sunset, the color of the leaves in the fall, or the blanket of snow covering the land?  Take a few minutes and appreciate the beauty nature gives you.  It truly is a gift.

Until next time,
-Jack

Welcome to my new Blog

Welcome to my new blog, Insight.  Why Insight? Well there are a couple of reasons.  First of all I want to give you a little “Insight” about the photos I’ll be posting here.  Things like where and when the photo was taken; any unique conditions at the time; and most important, what inspired me to snap the shutter.  Inspire is the key word here.  My goal has always been for my images to inspire the viewer, to see the beauty surrounding us, and to transport them to places they may never get to.  I’ll be doing just that with this blog.

Please plan on checking in regularly to get some Insight on the photos and to receive your prescribed dose of inspiration.

-Jack
